Recently, the price of diesel fuel has been dropping. This time last year, it was around $4.99/gal while regular unleaded was around $4.30/gal. As you can see from this picture, it is nearly on-par with regular unleaded now! So, my 42-44 MPG is really starting to look good! On top of that, the cost to produce diesel fuel is lower than the more highly refined gasoline.

I’ve also noticed ads on TV from Audi and BMW that talk about their diesel vehicles. I have a 2004 VW Golf TDI, but would really like to see an Audi TT with a nice TDI engine mated to the DSG transmission and Quattro. (I’ve owned a number of Audis over the years, so I know what I’m asking for!)  Autoweek just ran an article talking about the drop in diesel prices and how it has some european manufacturers trying to meet demand in the US.
